Liturgical ministries are specialized service roles within the Catholic Church, where trained, baptized, and confirmed lay parishioners assist priests and deacons during Mass and other liturgical celebrations. These ministers, including lectors, acolytes (altar servers), musicians, and extraordinary ministers of Holy Communion, facilitate the worship of the assembly, enhancing the celebration. 

Common Liturgical Ministries

Altar Servers: Assist the priest at the altar, carrying the cross, holding the Roman Missal, and aiding in preparation.

Lectors/Readers: Proclaim the Scriptures (First/Second Readings) and lead the General Intercessions.

Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion (EMHC): Assist in distributing the consecrated Body and Blood to the faithful, including to the sick/homebound.

Ministers of Hospitality/Ushers: Greet, assist with seating, and facilitate the offertory collection.

Music Ministers/Cantors: Lead the assembly in song to enhance the liturgical prayer.

Sacristans: Prepare the church, vestments, and sacred vessels for the Mass.
