The Sacrament of Baptism is a joyful welcome into the Christian community. Parents (and, when applicable, godparents) meet with the parish staff to prepare, reflecting on the meaning of baptism — dying and rising with Christ, being reborn as a child of God, and being incorporated into the life of the Church. The baptismal ceremony is typically held during or immediately after Mass (or by arrangement), where the water of life is blessed, the candidate is anointed, and the white garment and lighted candle signify this new beginning.
